Colored Rice Art Craft

Summer days are getting longer at our house and I am put Phoebe in the task of researching for some fun craft ideas. This one is colored rice. We took a half cup of rice and put in about 1/2 a teaspoon of rubbing alcohol then added food coloring. We just stuck with the 4 basic colors and they all made some pictures with glue. It kept us busy for about an hour and they had fun. Really this ended up being 2 activities because they liked coloring the rice about as much as making the pictures with it.

Crochet

From time to time I enjoy crocheting a new blanket. Part of the joy is going and picking out just the right colors of yarn. I may enjoy choosing colors as much as the final product that comes out. I can spend a ton of time holding different skeins together and envisioning the look they will make. Then I get started and go strong for about a week. The beginning is always fun because I am coming up with a unique pattern each time. As I go along the pattern may change a bit from what I originally intended and I really enjoy the creative process this gives me. Yet it never fails that once I hit the halfway point and know the pattern will just be repeating that I slow down and wait until a month or 2 goes by before picking it up again. This is where I am at with a current blanket. This is for a friend that is having a baby in a couple weeks though, so I really need to get back at it. There are times when color choices have been perfect and I love them the whole way through. However, this time I have second guessed myself several times along the way and have almost started over. This week I am back to loving the colors. Hopefully a new baby boy will too :)
